Covering KIDS & Families Local Projects
 
 

The Covering Kids & Families local projects communities are Providence, Pawtucket and Central Falls. Each of these communities develops and implements specific health insurance outreach strategies under the leadership of the local Covering Kids & Families Coordinators and the statewide Covering Kids & Families Project Director.

 



Pawtucket: Adult Strategies

The focus of the Pawtucket local project targets outreach to maximize enrollment of parents and their children in RIte Care/RIte Share. netWORKri serves as the lead agency. The strategies include:

· Targeting programs serving eligible adults to increase knowledge of the RIte Care/RIte Share program

· Identifying and reducing barriers to enrollment at the local and state level to maximize enrollment.

· Monitoring the number of families who lose health insurance coverage and the reasons, to improve retention.



Central Falls: Community-Based Strategies

The focus of the Central Falls local project is to enroll Latino and other immigrant families and to build a strong network of application assistance sites that have the capacity to help families complete the RIte Care application and recertification process. Progreso Latino serves as the lead agency. The strategies include:

· Assisting schools and community based organizations in identifying uninsured children and families and referring them to application assistance sites.

· Working with Department of Human Services and community based organizations to ensure that RIte Care materials and applications are available and understandable in foreign languages.

· Advocating for application assistance funding at health centers, hospitals and community based organizations serving limited English proficient clients.



Providence: Hospital-Based Strategies

The focus of the Providence local project is to implement outreach, enrollment, and retention strategies in hospitals and other primary health care sites. St. Joseph Hospital for Specialty Care serves as the lead agency for the local project. At this hospital, as well as at Hasbro Children’s Hospital, Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island, and Women and Infants’ Hospital of Rhode Island, the strategies include: 

· Developing systems to ensure that all uninsured clients are given information about RIte Care/RIte Share and are assisted with the application process.

· Coordinating billing of uninsured patients with RIte Care/RIte Share application assistance efforts.

· Advocating for application assistance funding at health centers, hospitals and community based organizations.
