This report describes municipal, public, and private sources of funding for a broad array of expanded learning opportunities, including afterschool programs, child care, and employment opportunities for youth in Rhode Island. This report is meant to serve as a starting place for further work on sustainable public and private funding for high quality expanded learning opportunities for Rhode Island’s children and youth.

Early Learning Standards Project: What Parents Should Know About Standards-Based Education for Preschoolers (October 2007)
This publication is available in English and in Spanish.

Pathways to Opportunity: Building Prosperity in Providence (November 2007)
This report details the recommendations of the Poverty, Work and Opportunity Task Force to Mayor David N. Cicilline of Providence to improve the well-being of children and families in the city. The Task Force was facilitated by Rhode Island KIDS COUNT by Executive Order of Mayor Cicilline.

Rhode Island Jim Casey Youth Opportunities Initiative: Two Years of Progress (September 2007)
Rhode Island Jim Casey Youth Opportunities Initiative is part of a national effort to help youth in foster care make successful transitions to adulthood. To participate in the Rhode Island Jim Casey Youth Opportunities Initiative program youth must be between the ages of 14 and 23 and currently or formerly in foster care.

Ready or Not: Preparing Rhode Island’s children to Succeed in School and Benchmarks for Progress (February 2007)
This report is an update of the final report of the Rhode Island School Readiness Team released in May 2004. The report focuses on key indicators used to determine the health development and well-being of young children.  

The Dental Safety Net in Rhode Island (June 2006)
The report details the findings of a Rhode Island KIDS COUNT survey of the service capacity, staffing, financing, and future needs of dental safety net providers in Rhode Island.

 Closing the Gap: Improving Access to Dental Care in Rhode Island (February 2006)
The report was released in collaboration with The Rhode Island Foundation and the Rhode Island Department of Human Services. The report highlights progress made in dental care access during the Rhode Island Oral Health Access Project and the work that remains to be done to increase access to dental care for children, the elderly, and other Rhode Islanders who lack access to dental services.

School Readiness Indicators as a Key Tool in Shaping Advocacy Strategies (October 2005)
Presented at the Voices for America's Children's 2005 Child Advocacy Leadership Institute, this paper examines how child advocates can use school readiness indicators to inform their policy agenda and further their advocacy work. The paper also shares examples of how states are using school readiness indicators to move a policy and advocacy agenda for young children.

Successful Start: Rhode Island's Early Childhood Systems Plan (November 2005)
Successful Start is Rhode Island's Early Childhood Comprehensive Systems Initiative. The Successful Plan describes goals, objectives and implementation strategies that will improve and coordinate services, resulting in improved child and family outcomes.

This report details the findings from the work of the three year School Readiness Indicators Initiative.
