New at Rhode Island KIDS COUNT

  • View the ABC 6 news story about a rally in of support the state’s health insurance program for vulnerable children and families, RIte Care. The story inicludes interviews with RIte Care members and advocates, including Elizabeth Burke Bryant, Executive Director of Rhode Island KIDS COUNT.

  • RI Senate approves $6.89 billion budget for the 2009 fiscal year and it has been signed by the governor. According to a press release from the Legislative Press & Information Bureau, the proposal (2008-H 7390A) maintains approximately 154 Head Start slots and eliminates 1,000 adults from RIte Care. The proposal also reduces the annual income eligibility level for RIte Care and allows RI to apply for a global Medicaid waiver. The proposal also makes significant changes to Rhode Island's Family Independence Program.
