School Readiness: Closing Racial and Ethnic Gaps Policymakers and Practitioners Conference

On March 8, 2006 Rhode Island KIDS COUNT co-sponsored a one day conference at which Dr. Jeanne Brooks-Gunn, co-author and editor of the Princeton University / Brookings Institution Future of Children Journal volume on School Readiness shared the findings of the journal with over 100 participants.



Elizabeth Burke Bryant, Executive Director of Rhode Island KIDS COUNT, welcomes meeting participants to the conference.



Dr. Stephanie McGencey, Executive Director of Grantmakers for Children, Youth and Families, gives welcoming remarks.



Commissioner Peter McWalters of the Rhode Island Department of Education provides introductory remarks.



Dr. Lewis P. Lipsitt, Professor Emeritus at Brown University and Board Chair of Rhode Island KIDS COUNT introduces the keynote speaker, Dr. Jeanne Brooks-Gunn.
