Chapin Hall Study Focuses on Mental Health Needs of Grandparent Caregivers
Chapin Hall Center for Children at the University of Chicago released a study, Caring for Their Children’s Children: Assessing the Mental Health Needs and Service Experiences of Grandparent Caregiver Families. The report combines information compiled during interviews with grandparents, and a survey of social service providers to explore the need for and barriers to the use of mental health services among grandparent-caregiver families in Illinois. The working paper outlines the unmet mental health needs of both grandparents and their grandchildren while also discussing the implications of these findings for practitioners and advocates.

Unclaimed Children Revisited
(July 2006)
The first publication in NCCP’s new Unclaimed Children Revisited Series, this working paper documents how families and youth can and should be involved in research and policy as well as advocacy to better help children and youth facing mental health challenges.

Positive Support: Mentoring and Depression Among High-Risk Youth 
This report released in June 2006 by Public/Private Ventures examines the benefits of matching high-risk youth with faith-based mentors. Mentored youth were less likely to show signs of depression than youth who were not mentored.



Emergency Response: A Roadmap for Federal Action on America´s Mental Health Crisis
The Campaign for Mental Health Reform released this report in July, 2005. The coalition of 16 national organizations proposed 28 action steps as a "roadmap" for Congress and the Administration to transform the country´s mental health care system.



Transforming Mental Health Care in America: The Federal Action Agenda
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), in collaboration with seven cabinet level federal agencies, released an Action Plan in July 2005 describing initial steps to be taken as part of a multi-year effort to transform the mental health system for children, youth, and adults in the U.S.

President’s New Freedom Commission on Mental Health
Issued in 2003, the Commission’s report serves as the blueprint for national action on children’s and adult’s mental health.

Surgeon General’s Reports on Mental Health
The U.S. Surgeon General has released several reports addressing mental health.

The Current Status of Mental Health in Schools: A Policy and Practice Analysis
This report is a  policy and program analysis of the 2005 SAMHSA report: School Mental Health Services in the United States, 2002–2003 that was published by the Center for Mental Health in Schools March 2006.



Children's Mental Health: An Overview and Key Considerations for Health System Stakeholders
The publication presents facts about current mental health services and key policy considerations for promoting and advancing comprehensive mental health systems for children and adolescents. Published by the National Institute for Health Care Management Foundation, it provides background information on children's mental health, and discusses financing mental health services for children and adolescents, building systems to support mental health needs, and selected national initiatives.
